New Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024 First Review: Top Changes Over Old?

In the new Swift, the AMT automatic is more efficient over the manual gearbox equipped versions. This engine is also tuned for better low end torque

Swift has been a huge success for Maruti Suzuki while also being one of its longest serving models with the first generation launching way back in 2005. In its new generation form, Maruti Suzuki has done some key changes which we will point out below

1. New engine

The Z series engine makes its debut here in the new Swift and it's a 3 cylinder unit which although is down on power when compared to the last one, is a lot more efficient without the requirement of a hybrid system with a 25 kmpl plus efficiency. In the new Swift, the AMT automatic is more efficient over the manual gearbox equipped versions. This engine is also tuned for better low end torque

2. More safety

Along with added standard safety features including 6 airbags and ESC, the new Swift is also heavier than the earlier model with more high tensile steel being used in the construction. While we do not have a crash test score yet, these factors will play a crucial role in getting a good score.

3. More practicality and features

While in terms of space or boot capacity there is no change, the new Swift does get smaller changes including a larger rear camera screen plus bigger cup holders. The boot loading lip is also lower for easier luggage drop. In terms of features, there is a bigger 9inch screen along with rear AC vents plus wireless smartphone connectivity.

4.  Updated Design

Design wise, Maruti Suzuki has maintained the Swift shape which is recognisable while having changed the grille, headlamps and some of the details like the placement of the rear door handle. We think it looks slightly premium now.

5. Prices

Prices have increased over the earlier Swift but there is more standard equipment this time around (Rs 6.4 lakh) although the top-end versions (Rs 9.64 lakh)  are slightly higher priced than rivals but there are new features too.
