New 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line India Review, Interior, Features

This is the all new model and it looks different now with more swagger than the more restrained looking previous gen. This one also looks and feels bigger

Globally the Tiguan is one of the best sellers from Volkswagen while in India we get the latest generation version but in R-Line for the first time. The R badge is for the best Volkswagen performance cars and the Tiguan also now has an R-Line. Launched in India, we drove the car for upwards of 400kms for a detailed review.

How Does It Look?

This is the all new model and it looks different now with more swagger than the more restrained looking previous gen. This one also looks and feels bigger while the R-Line brings in a bunch of sporty details including those 19-inch alloys, slim headlamps and R badging as well while the lower bumper is huge which brings in a different contrast. The rear gets the usual connected lighting element while there is a subtle spoiler too. The R-Line comes in six colours. Paint finish is very good and yes, the car looks aggressive- much more than the earlier model.

What About The Interiors?

Inside, it's a vast change and it is much more modern now with the larger 15-inch touch screen taking up all of the attention along with a large digital display. Like any Volkswagen, it feels well put together and has a sporty vibe including the trim as well as the seats. There is none of the usual beige as here it's black or blue stitching while there are brushed aluminum pedals too. The steering wheel feels just right to hold along with a  larger R badge. The seats are comfortable but have manual adjustment although it does get massage seats. The feature list includes 3-zone climate control which cooled down the cabin in the Rajasthan heat very well, Level 2 ADAS, Panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, 360 degree camera, wireless charging for two phones, park assist and eben something called a voice enhancer which raised the voice level so that rear occupants can converse with the front too. Safety wise it has all round sic brakes and a Euro Ncap 5 star safety rating too.

What About Space?

Space is better than the earlier Tiguian but the rear seat has a centre tunnel which means four passengers would be comfortable. Headroom is good while legroom is decent. Boot space is good for something of this size and door pockets are large enough.

What About The Driving Experience?

This is where the Tiguan R-Line sets itself apart. The standard powertrain is a 2.0L TSI with more power now with 304bhp and 320Nm while you can get this powertrain with a 7-speed DSG. 0-100 km/h is 7.1 seconds and performance is brisk with ample power on offer. The Tiguan R-Line is exciting to drive overall though and it sounds pretty good while being a fun to drive SUV despite its size. It feels energetic, engaging and the steering also weighs up. Handing is also top notch where body control is being looked at with good grip along with good confidence. On the Rajasthan roads, it felt stable and connected. True, the low-speed ride is a touch firm but flattens out at higher speeds. It feels quick and fun though while clearly being the most dynamic focussed SUV in its class.

Should You Buy One?

If you love driving then yes as the Tiguan R-Line clearly feels the most fun SUV in its class with a clear bent towards performance. However, it is not hugely thirsty (9-10 kmpl), comes pretty well equipped and is a comfortable daily driver but with more personality. If you like driving then the Tiguan R-line is for you even if the prices have gone up since it is an import at Rs 48.9 lakh but compared to the earlier Tiguan, we think it's more than good value considering what's on offer. It is different from other SUVS and offers more performance than even entry level luxury SUVs which is the key appeal.
