Auto Expo 2023: Maruti Suzuki Fronx First Look Review
The Fronx is a subcompact SUV that sits along with the Brezza and is a sporty SUV coupe of sorts.
Maruti Suzuki is keen to add more SUVs to its portfolio and the much talked about Baleno based SUV was revealed a few days back at the Auto Expo. The Fronx is a subcompact SUV that sits along with the Brezza and is a sporty SUV coupe of sorts.
While it shares the platform of the Baleno, the design is completely different while also getting new engines.
The design is Grand Vitara based but has its own unie stance with an SUV coupe shape of sorts. The large chrome grille and the slim DRLs are Grand Vitara like while a skid plate plus cladding adds in a hint of SUV muscle.
The SUV coupe element comes from the roofline with the way the roof flows in. Another rather interesting trait is the full length LED light bar along with the LED tail-lamps.
The roof rails and the 17-inch alloys are further a nice touch. It has the same length as the Baleno at 3995mm.
The interior has a distinctive red/black dualtone theme with a silver insert in the middle as well with different design elements when compared to the Baleno. The cabin sure does feel more premium than the Baleno too.
In regards to the features list, there is a 9-inch touchscreen with an HD display plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Head Up Display with turn-by-turn navigation, 360 view camera, wireless charger and an Arkamys audio system.
Space is similar to a Baleno too but the rear seat, despite the sloping roof, has decent headroom.
There is also connected car tech, 6 airbags and ESP with Hill Hold Assist & roll over mitigation. There are two engine options with a 1.0l Boosterjet turbo petrol which returns to the Maruti range after the Baleno RS while there is an option of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
There is also a Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine which offers Idle Start Stop technology with a 5-speed manual and AGS AMT.
We expect a launch in April and it will be on sale via Nexa sales outlets with the car being offered with 6 single tone colour options and 3 dual tone ones. The Fronx overall is an interesting compact SUV that puts the focus on style and has the turbo petrol which will add the performance factor too. Clearly this could be an interesting car to be slotted between the Baleno and the Brezza.
