It is believed that worshipping Goddess Sheetala with cold offerings on this day soothes the minds and bodies of devotees, alleviating all kinds of afflictions. According to tradition, people perform the puja of Goddess Sheetala on either Sheetala Saptami or Sheetala Ashtami.

Sheetala Saptami 2024 Date and Time:

Sheetala Saptami falls on 1st April 2024. Worshiping Goddess Sheetala on this day is believed to free individuals from illnesses.
According to the Panchang, the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the Chaitra month begins on 31st March 2024 at 09:30 PM and ends on 1st April 2024 at 09:09 PM.

Sheetala Puja Timing on Saptami: Morning 06:11 AM to Evening 06:39 PM (1st April 2024)

Significance of Sheetala Ashtami:

On Sheetala Ashtami, women observe fasts for the well-being, prosperity, and long life of their families and children. The worship of Goddess Sheetala is believed to protect children from diseases and ailments. It is said that through this ritual, children are safeguarded from chickenpox, measles, and eye-related illnesses.

Sheetala Ashtami Vrat Vidhi:

On Sheetala Ashtami, fresh meals are not cooked. Women prepare the food for Sheetala Ashtami puja one day in advance. The offerings include sweet rice, rabri (a sweet dish), pua (a type of sweet), halwa (a dessert), roti (bread), and other delicacies. The offerings are prepared one day prior to the puja. On the day of Sheetala Ashtami puja, devotees take a bath with cold water and offer prayers using cold items. No lamps or incense are lit during the puja, and devotees consume only cold food as prasad.
