Sharad Purnima 2023 To Coincide With Chandra Grahan — Know Date, Time, Sutak Kaal And Rituals

Sharad Purnima, which falls during the month of Ashwin when the moon shines in its full glory, is set to mark a unique celestial occurrence this year.

Sharad Purnima 2023: Celebrated as the brightest and fullest moon of the year, Sharad Purnima is scheduled to grace India on October 28, 2023. This festival holds significant cultural and spiritual importance, as it is believed that the moon emits rays with therapeutic properties on this night. According to popular belief, the moon, at its most resplendent, bestows blessings upon those who observe rituals in the name of the goddess Lakshmi. Others take delight in the eternal love of Lord Krishna and Radha, illuminated by this enchanting moon.

Sharad Purnima 2023 Fasting Rituals:

Hindus typically spend the night outdoors to witness the full moon on Sharad Purnima while partaking in age-old customs such as singing, dancing, and offering milk, rice, and special sweets as a mark of reverence to the moon. Many individuals, especially women, observe a fast, stay awake throughout the night, and enjoy special milk and rice dishes. Kheer, a traditional delicacy, is prepared on Sharad Purnima and placed under the moonlight throughout the night before being presented as prasad.

Sharad Purnima 2023 Sutak Kaal:

As per Drik Panchang, the sutak period commences nine hours prior to the eclipse. On Sharad Purnima, it is customary to store kheer outdoors for consumption the following day. However, due to the lunar eclipse occurring on the same day, it is essential to adhere to specific timings when placing kheer under the moonlight. The belief is that any consumption, cooking, or engagement in auspicious activities is inauspicious during the Sutak Kaal.

Another prevalent belief states that Tulsi leaves are impervious to the eclipse's effects. Consequently, adding Basil leaves to kheer does not offer protection from the eclipse's consequences in this context. Nonetheless, it is believed that the ill effects of an eclipse only prevail during the eclipse's actual duration.

Chandra Grahan On Sharad Purnima 2023:

For enthusiasts of lunar phenomena, here is some exciting news. A partial lunar eclipse, which occurs when the moon partially passes through Earth's shadow, resulting in a reddish-brown hue, is set to coincide with the Hindu festival of Sharad Purnima in October.

Chandra Grahan 2023 Date And Time:

Cities across India, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Varanasi, may witness this partial Chandra Grahan or lunar eclipse. According to Drik Panchang, the lunar eclipse will commence at 01:06 AM and conclude at 02:22 AM on October 28. The Sutak period will begin at 02:52 PM and extend until 02:22 AM.
