Ex-Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu Arrested In Corruption Case

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu arrested by CID.

The Criminal Investigation Department on Saturday arrested former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu in a corruption case. The former CM was arrested around 6 am from R K Function Hall at Gnanapuram in Nandyala town, said an official, as per a PTI report. Naidu's counsel said they will approach the High Court for bail. "CID has taken Chandrababu for a medical check-up after high Blood Pressure and diabetes were detected. We are approaching the High Court for bail," said the counsel, as per an ANI report. High drama was witnessed in Nandyal district when the police officials reached to arrest Naidu in connection to the alleged corruption charges as a group of workers got into an argument with the policemen.

The workers questioned the late-night action against the TDP chief and a minor scuffle also took place between the two parties.

Naidu has been arrested under Indian Penal Code Sections 166, 167, 418, 420, 465, 468, 471, 409, 201 R/W 109, 34&37.

His son, who was on his way to meet his father was also detained.

Party leaders criticised the police for the late-night action against the senior leaders, and reportedly some party workers were also detained by the police, according to the report.

A heavy police force has been deployed in the area under the command of DIG Raghurama Reddy, as per the police officials, stated the report.

The police, however, did not respond to the questions by party leaders saying that the remand report contains everything.

"We have evidence. We gave it to the High Court. The remand report contains all the contents. We will give a remand report before taking him to Vijayawada," the police were quoted as saying.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police of the CID's Economic Offences Wing (EOW), M Dhanunjayudu, in a notice served to Naidu, said, " "It is to inform you that you have been arrested... at 6 am at R K Function Hall, Gnanapuram, H/o Moolasagaram, Nandyala town and it is a non-bailable offence."
