Mild Tremors Felt In Tirupati As 3.9 Earthquake Strikes Andhra Pradesh
The epicentre was 10 km below the surface of the earth in east-northeast of Tirupati.
New Delhi: An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 struck Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. As per National Centre for Seismology data, the epicentre was 10 km below the surface of the earth in east-northeast of Tirupati. As per initial information, mild tremors were felt in Tirupati but no damage has been reported.
The time of the earthquake is approximately 8.43pm. Taking to X, the National Centre for Seismology posted, “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.9, Occurred on 14-03-2024, 20:43:05 IST, Lat: 13.84 & Long: 79.91, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 58km ENE of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India.”

As per reports, the impact of the earthquake could also be felt near Chennai and Kummidipooondi area on Andhra-Tamil Nadu border.

Meanwhile, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, eastern Japan experienced an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6 earlier in the day. The epicentre of the earthquake was located off the coast of Fukushima prefecture, with strong tremors felt in the region. The meteorological agency, however, clarified that no tsunami warning had been issued. As of now, there have been no reports of any immediate damage caused by the earthquake.

Taking to X, National Centre for Seismology also posted, “Earthquake of Magnitude:6.0, Occurred on 14-03-2024, 20:44:38 IST, Lat: 37.20 & Long: 141.00, Depth: 68 Km, Location: 208km NE of Tokyo, Japan.”
