Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of people who died after falling into a drainage canal in Kandukuru town of Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district during former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu's roadshow. Eight people died and eight others were injured in a stampede that occurred during a TDP event in Kandukuru on Wednesday evening.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered his condolences to the bereaved families. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Pained by the mishap at a public meeting in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. An ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and the injured would be given Rs 50,000".

According to ABP Desam report, the death toll rose to eight on Wednesday night as one more victim of a stampede that occurred during a TDP event in Kandukuru town in Nellore district, passed away while undergoing treatment.
The victims, including two women, died and eight others were injured on Wednesday after they fell into a drainage canal when the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu was addressing a roadshow in Kandukuru town. People gathered in large numbers at the event and there was some jostling among the public during the meeting, leading to a stampede-like situation at the canal.
Naidu halted speaking shortly after the incident. People who were injured during the roadshow have been rushed to the local hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, Naidu promised 10 lakhs of financial assistance to the families of the bereaved workers and the education of their children through NTR Trust.
