Video Shows Dead Bodies Next To Patients At Mumbai's Sion Hospital, BMC Orders Investigation
The video was shared on Twitter by BJP leader Nitin Rane on Wednesday where he confirmed the legitimicy of the video at Sion hospital and blamed the Mumbai civic body BMC of 'mismanagement'.
Mumbai, May 7: After a shocking video surfaced in social media revealing laxity of officials in handling the dead bodies of Covid-19 patients in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has ordered an inquiry on Thursday into the incident.
In a heart-wrenching video, the Covid-19 patients can be seen lying beside the dead bodies while the treatment is on.
The video was shared by BJP leader Nitin Rane on Wednesday where he confirmed the veracity of the video at Sion hospital and blamed the Mumbai civic body BMC of 'mismanagement'.
On Thursday, Rane again tweeted that the dean of Sion hospital has accepted the video and says the relatives don’t come to claim the bodies so we have kept them there.
He further raised questions on the handling of dead bodies by the authorities and said it’s a medical emergency.
On the officials being contacted after the video was made public, officials said there were too many dead bodies inside the hospital in absence of people coming to collect them. It is said that the ward in which the video was shot has the oxygen coming through the wall so beds cannot be shifted because of the ventilators on those beds.
However, as soon as the video started surfacing and the incident was reported, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya also tweeted saying he wrote to ICMR asking them to consider suggestions in tackling the present situation.
After this report has been made public others are sharing similar incidences on mismanagement and poor conditions of Mumbai hospitals.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country mounted to 52,952 on Thursday morning, with 3,561 new cases and 89 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry stated.
Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases with a staggering 1,233 new cases and 34 deaths on Wednesday. The state death toll shot up to 651 on Wednesday and the total number of Coronavirus patients increased to touch 16,758.
