The stunning encounter occurred as the majestic male tiger, a striking figure at just four years old, showcased his commanding presence to a lucky group of onlookers.
Rai, who shared his experience on Instagram, described the encounter as nothing short of extraordinary. "Rocket, the majestic male tiger of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, truly lives up to his bold and regal appearance. At 4 years old, he is a massive and awe-inspiring presence, unlike any other tiger I have encountered," he wrote.

Rai recounted his experience in detail, saying, “The moment I saw him, I was struck by his sheer size and distinct demeanor. His confident attitude, royal gait, commanding presence, and surprisingly friendly behavior set him apart from all others. For me, Rocket is truly a showstopper.”

The photographer and his team were fortunate to spend 30-40 minutes in Rocket’s company, watching him roam gracefully, play by himself, and revel in his surroundings. The highlight of the experience came when Rocket walked head-on toward their gypsy, giving Rai the perfect opportunity to capture his royal stride.
Challenges While Shooting
Rai revealed the challenges of photographing Rocket’s regal walk. “The entire sequence was shot handheld, as our gypsy moved slowly to maintain a respectful distance. Without the support of a beanbag, I had to stabilize the jerky footage during post-processing, but the effort was absolutely worth it,” he said.

The Pilibhit Tiger Reserve is known for its vibrant wildlife, but Rocket’s commanding presence has elevated its charm. Wildlife enthusiasts and photographers often visit the reserve, hoping for such once-in-a-lifetime encounters. Mohit was immediately struck by the sheer size and distinct demeanor of the tiger.
