Bezos Moves Big: Crane Lifts Mystery Item To Billionaire’s NYC Penthouse

A huge piece of wrapped furniture dangled from a rope as a crane slowly hoisted it above the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 26th Street, while onlookers watched in amusement.

A dramatic scene unfolded at Manhattan's Fifth Avenue stretch, involving huge cranes, barricades, caution tape, and moving trucks lined up to 26th Street and beyond. Jeff Bezos reportedly owns five luxury apartments at 212 5th Avenue, a 24-story building, occupying the top four floors, purchased for a sum of $119 million.

Overlooking Madison Square Park, these properties are a part of his growing property portfolio. Barricades, numerous workers, and moving trucks were seen trying to carefully redirect traffic around the building.

A huge piece of wrapped furniture dangled from a rope as a crane slowly hoisted it above the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 26th Street, reported The New York Post.

The viral clip, filmed by Raffi Arslanian, the owner of a nearby luxury candle company, shows how a giant towering crane is being used to hoist a massive piece of furniture all the way up to Bezos' penthouse. The luxury candle company owner joked light-heartedly, “I think we all can relate to this,” before laughing it off and adding, “Now back to reality, where, when we move, we get a U-Haul and we do it ourselves — or at best, we get a company to do it. But we don’t close the street.”

His video quickly gained almost 1 million views and thousands of comments from TikTok and X users. Social media users engaged in a fun guessing game as to what the giant object being hoisted by the crane was, with guesses ranging from a hot tub to a grand piano. Meanwhile, other users also showed interest in knowing the approximate cost of the whole operation. The approximate cost of crane-facilitated moves like this can reach up to around $20,000 per day, according to reports, while also requiring permits to shut down streets.

According to Forbes, Bezos' current net worth is estimated at $223 billion. This event sparked a wider discussion and commentary among the general public about billionaire privileges and conveniences, while some users remarked, “We would all do the same if we had 100 billion dollars.”
