Man Who Spent ₹11 Lakh To 'Become A Dog' Now Rents Out Costume For This Reason

A Japanese man known as Toco, who gained fame for living as a dog, now rents out his realistic dog costume to individuals who share his desire to experience life as a canine.

A Japanese man who went viral for living as a dog has launched a new business renting out his dog costume to like-minded people.

Known as Toco, the man from Saitama Prefecture had dreamed of becoming a dog since childhood. As per media reports, he contacted special effects workshop Zeppet and asked them to build an ultra-realistic dog costume. Reportedly costing around 2 million yen (nearly rupees 11 lakh), the costume, which weighs 4kg and features a movable mouth, tail and paws, was designed to completely hide his human frame.

Over a peroid of time, Toco learned to shake hands, roll over and catch frisbees like a real dog. He also goes out to socialise with other pet dogs, wearing a collar. Last year, he added a new feature “skin” customising an Alaskan malamute costume. This is more fluffier, cuter and detailed than the previous one.

He has also launched a YouTube channel to document his “life as a dog." The account has attracted more than 70,000 subscribers.

Recognising that there are other like-minded individuals who share his interests, Toco has started a new venture, renting out his costume and helping fulfil their dreams of “becoming a dog.”

The offer is described on its official website and asks, “Have you ever wanted to be an animal? Have you ever imagined yourself as something other than yourself and felt excited? We offer a service that can help make that wish come true, even if only a little, by having you wear a costume."

The service was launched on January 26 and it requires booking at least 30 days in advance. As per the details, the costume rental for 180 minutes costs 49,000 yen (Rs 26,500), and for 120 minutes 36,000 yen (Rs 19, 500). However, despite the high price and limited availability, time slots for February have already been fully booked.

The offer has been welcomed by his followers. One of them said, “When I was very little, every time someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say ‘I want to be a wolf!’ And I would get very sad when adults told me it was not possible. Thank you for making these dreams come true.”

This development has also sparked discussions among Chinese social media users. While one user asked, "Can I be a koala that just sleeps on the ground?", another said, "Becoming a jellyfish is honestly kind of tempting."
