Greater Noida Cop Jumps Into Deep, Filthy Drain To Save Drowning Man: Watch Viral Video

Sub-Inspector Sohanveer Singh dived into a deep, filthy drain in Greater Noida to save a drunk man who had fallen in. The video of the rescue operation went viral.

In a remarkable act of dedication, a police sub-inspector dived into a deep drain in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday afternoon to save an inebriated man. How the man landed in the drain is not clear right now. While news agency PTI reported that the drunk man was attempting to take his own life, news website Hindustan Times stated that he lost his balance and fell into it.

Sub-inspector Sohanveer Singh, attached to the Phase 2 police station, oversees the Panchasheel outpost. He was described as the "hero of the day" by officials. "The police received a report that a drunk man had fallen into a deep drain near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road in a suicide attempt. Responding promptly, Sub-Inspector Sohanveer Singh, along with trainee sub-inspector Navneet Kumar and Head Constable Pradeep Kumar, hurried to the location," a police spokesperson said.

A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media. The video showed Sohanveer Singh in uniform jumping into the filthy drain, which was about 15-foot deep and wading to the middle where the man was drowning. Sohanveer held on to a rope with one hand and pulled the man to the bank with another. His colleagues, trainee sub-inspector Navneet Singh and head constable Pradeep Kumar, then pulled him up. The rescue operation lasted around 20 minutes.

Upon their arrival, they witnessed the man being carried away by dirty water of the drain, an official mentioned. "Exhibiting outstanding courage, Singh leapt into the drain and rescued the man," he added.

The said noted that the man was immediately rushed to the hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable. The rescued man is around 55 years of age. He under medical observation now but he doesn't remember much, reported Hindustan Times. 

Sohanveer Singh received a commendation certificate and a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for his efforts.
