'Count Binface', The Bizarre Character Who Faced Rishi Sunak, Celebrates 'Bindependence Day' After Polls

Count Binface, known off stage as Jon Harvey, faced Rishi Sunak. After the results, Count Binface showed up dressed in his signature headgear that resembles a waste bucket.

UK Elections: 'Count Binface', also known as the "Intergalactic Space Warrior", who contested against Rishi Sunak from the Richmond and Northallerton Parliamentary seat in the UK general elections, celebrated his personal best in his fledgling political career: a sixth-spot finish.

After the results, Count Binface took to X, saying, "My highest-ever finish. 6th. My highest-ever parliamentary vote. 308. My highest height advantage. 2ft 6in #BindependenceDay has come." Count Binface was trending on X after the poll results were declared on Friday.

The Guardian reported that 'Count Binface' is the brainchild of comedy writer and performer Jonathan Harvey. Count Binface made his political debut as Lord Buckethead against two ex-Prime Ministers. He fought Theresa May in her Maidenhead constituency in 2017, and two years later, in 2019, as 'Count Binface', he ran against Boris Johnson in Uxbridge and South Ruislip.

In 2021, he ran for London mayor and again contested the post this year, winning 24,260 votes, beating far-right party Britain First. This year, he fought his third general election campaign, taking on Rishi Sunak in Richmond and Northallerton.

Count Binface, dressed in a silver suit with a matching cape and using a silver trash can as a helmet, claimed that he was the "sane" choice for the electorate and, thus, wanted to declare the July 4 election "Bindependence Day", according to news agency Reuters.

Reuters reported that in the recent elections, Binface's policies continued to grab eyeballs. His proposals included "capping the price of croissants at 1.10 pounds", "mandatory national service for former prime ministers", a "bid to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest", and the construction of “one affordable home".

Count Binface himself had a serious message behind the jokes, stating that it was critical to safeguard democracy in a year when "over half the eligible humans on your planet" would vote.

Weird Candidates In UK Elections 2024

Count Binface was not the only bizarre candidate in the UK elections this year. Reuters reported that Official Monster Raving Loony Party, which was founded in 1982 and has been contesting elections on a regular basis, fielded 22 candidates this time. The candidates included Howling 'Laud' Hope, the party's leader, Baron Von Thunderclap, and Earl Elvis of East Anglia.

Furthermore, 'AI Steve' aspired to be the world's first artificial intelligence lawmaker, alongside the Psychedelic Movement Party candidate in Southend, who campaigned on promises to break the law and operate 24-hour cannabis cafés. Elmo also ran in several elections, but Bobby Smith, the man in the furry red clothing, tried to make a serious political statement and said that he wanted to reform the legislation on fathers' rights.
