On Cam: Car Smuggling Ganja Runs Over Policemen At Andhra Pradesh Toll Plaza

The incident took place on Thursday, when a car, bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration number, was flagged down as it approached the toll plaza by police personnel for inspection.

Two policemen were run over by a car while they were patrolling against narcotics trafficking at Krishnavaram toll plaza in Kirlampudi mandal, Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh, in the early hours of Thursday. In the incident, two constables suffered injuries and the accused was held at Jeelugumilli in West Godavari district.

On Thursday, the car, bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration number, was flagged down as it approached the toll plaza by police personnel for inspection. The vehicle, traveling from Visakhapatnam to Rajamahendravaram, initially stopped as directed. However, the driver suddenly accelerated, hitting two constables—Lovaraju of Kirlampudi Police Station and another officer—who were standing in front of the vehicle.

Both injured constables were rushed to a hospital for treatment. The other policemen also chased the car and found it later abandoned at Rajanagaram. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to contain ganja.

The accused was apprehended at Jeelugumilli in West Godavari district after a coordinated effort by the cops. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. The identity of the accused and further details are awaited.

In Andhra Pradesh, Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has intensified efforts to curb the smuggling of narcotics. In collaboration with Odisha police, ANTF has been leveraging advanced technologies such as satellite imagery and drones to identify and eradicate ganja cultivation at its source. Pre-emptive raids during critical cultivation periods are part of their strategy to disrupt the supply chain.

Ganja cultivation is prevalent in parts of Visakhapatnam, other districts in north coastal Andhra, and neighboring Odisha. In recent months, several peddlers have been arrested in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana while attempting to transport ganja to other states.
