'Exhausted And Empty’: 42-Year-Old Man With Rs 2.5 Cr Savings Shares Burnout Struggles, Internet Reacts

A 42-year-old single man with no dependents and Rs 2.5 crore in savings is feeling burnt out from his job and considering early retirement.

A post showing a man highlighting his marriage status and posting about his savings, stress, and an urge to quit the daily grind went viral on social media. The 42-year-old man created a buzz among netizens after he revealed emptiness from inside despite having no dependents, no debt, and Rs 2.5 crore sitting in fixed deposits.

"42M, never married, no dependents, parents passed away long ago. No plans of ever getting married. Current net worth 2.5 crores INR (all in FDs)," he said in a post on Reddit.

Exhausted And Empty’: 42-Year-Old Man With Rs 2.5 Cr Savings Shares Burnout Struggles, Internet Reacts

He shared that he didn’t possess a home or a vehicle and was free from financial responsibilities. A brief period spent working in the US entitled him to a monthly post-tax income of about $1,000 (roughly Rs 84,000) after turning 62. Yet, even this financial cushion did little to alleviate his sense of burnout.

"Do not own a house or a car. No debt. Had a brief stint in the US, which will give me around 1000 USD post-tax per month once I turn 62. I am completely exhausted and tired of this 9 to 5 and have developed some kind of chronic fatigue," he said.

"Always stressed and always thinking of deadlines at work. Developed health problems and pretty much hate everything. I am not in tech, and the job I have is not easy to get, so if I quit getting anything like this in the future, it would be nearly impossible, he added.

He also noted that he wasn’t part of the tech sector, which made changing careers more difficult. This left him caught in a tough choice — continue with a job that was mentally exhausting or quit without having a clear alternative.

Netizens React To Viral Post

Following the post went viral on Reddit, the users came up with their mixed opinions. "If there is a fatigue, won't a sabbatical and travelling and relaxing prove a better option. After that once you go back to work and still hate it you can retire. I think you have money and stable source for later, but it is still few years down the line. Plus having a house if you plan for pets becomes a little necessary, " a user said.

Another said, "Dude you can retire twice! If this is genuine post - find what to retire to and leave your job. But just stay away from vices and you are are sorted."

The next also said, "Get a teaching job or some job which is less stressful then existing job. Get a small budget flat in hill station max 30-50 lakhs. Retire and relax. Clean air , go for walk in hills and retire."
