Telangana: Two Passengers From Kenya And Somalia Test Positive For Omicron Variant In Hyderabad

The patient who tested positive for Omicron arriving in Hyderabad from Kenya has been isolated and admitted to TIMS while the authorities are in the process of isolating the traveller from Somalia.

Hyderabad: Omicron variant of Covid-19 spreads its tentacles to Telangana as two passengers from Kenya and Somalia have tested positive for the recently discovered variant in Hyderabad, Director of Public Health, Dr G Srinivasa Rao said on Wednesday.

Besides these two, a seven-year-old domestic passenger, who has travelled to Kolkata have also tested positive for the Omicron variant but she has already reached Kolkata.

The patient who tested positive for Omicron after arriving in Hyderabad from Kenya has been isolated and admitted to Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) while the authorities are in the process of isolating the traveller from Somalia, said the Telangana DPH.

According to ABP Desam, the Somalian, Abdullahi Ahmed Nur, who tested positive Omicron Covid Variant was missing and later the Hyderabad police nabbed him at Paramount Colony in Banjara Hills. He arrived from Sharjah on December 12. He is also now admitted to TIMS.

Srinivasa Rao also said that the travellers have arrived in the city on December 12 and it took more than 48 hours to confirm. Among the two positive patients, A 24-year-old from Kenya is a woman while the passenger from Somalia is a 23-year-old man.

"Their samples were collected on December 12 and sent to genome sequencing. The results were out on Tuesday night," said Srinivas Rao as quoted by Hans India.

He said that the two families were residing in the Mehdipatnam and Tolichowki areas of the city and the tests were conducted on their families. Now the authorities are in the process of isolating them and checking for the contacts.
