'Society Has Lost A Great Doctor': BRS MLC Kavitha Writes To Parents Of Student Who Died By Suicide

Kavitha expressed her deepest condolences to the family of Dr Preethi and assured them that the Telangana government was by their side.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Tuesday wrote an open letter to the parents of Dr Preethi, the postgraduate medical student at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Hyderabad who allegedly died by suicide after being ragged by her senior, saying the incident "distressed" her and the government was by their side.

Kavitha expressed her deepest condolences to the family of Dr Preethi and assured them that the Telangana government was by their side.

In an open letter, Kavitha wrote “As a mother, Preeti's death distressed me. I was one of the crores of people who prayed for her recovery. Preethi is pursuing her postgraduate studies in medicine despite numerous obstacles. Society has lost a great doctor. I express my condolences.”

“We will make sure such incidents don't happen again. The Telangana state stands by you. I pray to God to give you both strength in these difficult times,” she further wrote.

Meanwhile, ministers Satyavati Rathod and E Dayakar Rao visited Preethi's house and consoled her family. The ministers assured the family that the guilty would not be spared. Also, they assured the woman's family that the government would support them.

Preethi, a first-year student of postgraduate (MD) program in the department of anesthesia at KMC in Warangal, succumbed at a hospital in Hyderabad on Sunday night, five days after she allegedly took a lethal injection.

Warangal Police has arrested her senior, MA Saif, who allegedly targeted Preethi with insulting comments. The police said the harassment of Preethi by her senior could have driven her to attempt suicide.

Saif was booked for abetment to suicide and also charged under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Anti-Ragging Act.
