Telangana: BJP MLA Calls DGP 'Bihar Goonda', IPS Association Requests Speaker For Strict Action
The IPS Association said it condemns the 'irresponsible' and 'highly derogatory' comment made by Raghunandan Rao against DGP Anjani Kumar over Telangana BJP chief Bandi Kumar's arrest.
The IPS Association of Telangana on Wednesday condemned the derogatory comment made by BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao about Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar and requested Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to take firm action against him, IANS reported.
In a statement, the IPS Association said it condemns the "irresponsible" and "highly derogatory" comment made by Raghunandan Rao against the DGP over the preventive arrest of Telangana BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar by Karimnagar Police.
The association has also requested Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to take disciplinary action against the MLA.
"Such irresponsible statement from a legislator and use of unparliamentary language against a senior government functionary is highly unbecoming and unhealthy in a democratic set up," read the statement issued by the IPS Association of Telangana.
"Further, such disparaging remarks are highly demoralising for the entire police force of Telangana, which is working day and night for ensuring the safety and security of the public and maintenance of law and order in the state," said the statement.
While condemning Bandi Sanjay's arrest, the BJP MLA had allegedly called DGP Anjani Kumar a "Bihar goonda".
Sanjay was arrested by police late on Tuesday night in Karimnagar in the SSC examination question paper leak case.
On Wednesday, Bandi Sanjay filed a bail plea at the Telangana High Court. Two FIRs have been registered against Bandi Sanjay for protests by party workers on the leak of SSC exam papers on 'WhatsApp' and provoking students to protest, which may disturb law and order in the state.
He was arrested in the second FIR registered at Kamalapur, Warangal, (60/2023).
BJP Protests Over Bandi Sanjay's Arrest
Telangana police detained MLAs Raghunandan Rao and Eatala Rajender and other leaders on Wednesday while the BJP has called for state-wide protests against the arrest of Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Raghunandan Rao was detained near the Bommala Ramaram police station when he wanted to meet police officers. The protesters, including women, raised slogans against the police. Several protesters were arrested.
