BRS Calls For Protests Across Telangana Against Congress State Chief's Remark On Free Power

Minister KT Rama Rao urged party leaders and cadres to organise protests on Tuesday and Wednesday to condemn the 'anti-farmer' attitude of the Congress.

The ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana has called for protests across the state for two days against state Congress president A Revanth Reddy's remark that there was no need for 24-hour free electricity supply to farmers in the state.

Minister KT Rama Rao, the working president of the BRS, urged party leaders and cadres to organise protests on Tuesday and Wednesday to condemn the "anti-farmer" attitude of the Congress party. He has instructed party cadres to burn effigies of the Congress party in every village as a symbol of opposition to their stance against providing free electricity to farmers in Telangana.

KTR alleged that the Congress intends to abolish the free electricity scheme in Telangana. He accused the Congress of having a history of betraying farmers by not providing them with electricity in the past.

"Congress has once again revealed its anti-farmer policies," KTR said while urging the farmers and people of Telangana to strongly oppose the party's policies.

TPCC president Revanth Reddy, during an interaction with NRI members from Telangana in the United States, claimed that providing 24-hour free power supply to the farming sector in Telangana was unnecessary. The TPCC president flagged that the majority of farmers in Telangana owned small and marginal land holdings of less than three acres, for which only three hours of power supply was sufficient. He further stated that eight hours of free power supply would be more than enough.

Additionally, the TPCC president alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government was extending 24-hour power supply to farmers primarily to draw commissions from power utilities. He claimed that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was misleading the farmers and people of Telangana under the guise of free power.
