WhatsApp Will Now Let You Scan Documents Using Phone Camera: Here's How It Works

WhatsApp's latest update eliminates the need for third-party scanning apps.

WhatsApp, one of the most popular instant messaging platforms globally, has introduced a much-anticipated feature for iOS users — document scanning through the app’s built-in camera. This feature is included in the latest update, version 24.25.89, now available for download from the App Store.

The new tool eliminates the need for third-party scanning apps, offering users a convenient way to scan and share documents directly within WhatsApp. While the feature has been officially announced, it is being rolled out gradually, so some users may see it appear over the coming days. To access the functionality, ensure you’ve updated to the latest version of WhatsApp on your iOS device.

How To Use WhatsApp’s Document Scanning Feature

Here’s a detailed guide to make the most of this new capability:

  • Access the Document-Sharing Menu: Open a chat or group where you want to share the document, then navigate to the document-sharing option.
  • Select the “Scan” Option: Tap on the newly added "scan" feature to activate your phone’s camera.
  • Capture the Document: Position the document within the camera’s viewfinder and take a picture.
  • Preview and Adjust: After capturing, review the scan and make necessary edits, such as rotating or cropping.
  • Fine-Tune Margins: Adjust the edges to ensure the document is framed properly for clear viewing.
  • Send the Document: Once satisfied, share the scanned document instantly in a chat or group.

This addition is expected to enhance productivity, particularly for users who frequently need to send important documents, whether for personal or professional purposes. The seamless integration eliminates the hassle of switching between apps or downloading additional tools.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp demonstrated its focus on improving user convenience by introducing features like the party popper emoji as a default reaction. The document scanning tool is another step forward, aligning with the platform’s goal of delivering practical and innovative solutions to its global user base.

For iOS users, this feature makes WhatsApp an even more indispensable tool for communication and day-to-day tasks.
