Step-By-Step Guide On How To Pin Messages In Individual And Group Chats On WhatsApp

Pinned messages let users highlight crucial content in group or individual chats, supporting different types of messages.

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature allowing users to pin chats for both one-on-one and group conversations, the company has announced. Pinned messages let users highlight crucial content in group or individual chats, supporting different types of messages, including text, polls, images, emojis and all of them are end-to-end encrypted (E2EE). To 'pin' a message, simply long-press on it, choose 'pin' from the context menu and a banner will appear for selecting the duration -- 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.

Step-By-Step Guide On How To Pin A Message On WhatsApp

A pinned message is displayed as a banner at the top of the chat until it's unpinned.

For Android devices: Tap and hold the message.

Tap more options > Pin > select the pin duration (24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days) > Pin.

For iPhones: Tap and hold the message.

Tap More options > Pin > select the pin duration (24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days).

For Web and desktop: Go to the message you want to pin and click menu > Pin message > select the pin duration (24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days) > Pin.

While the default choice while pinning a chat is 7 days, within a group chat, administrators can decide whether all members or only other administrators have the ability to pin a message.

Earlier this month, Meta-owned WhatsApp announced its latest update introducing "disappearing voice messages" to enhance user privacy within the app. The feature, which it said was being rolled out globally, lets users send voice messages that self-delete after a single playback, similar to the "view once" functionality for photos and videos introduced in 2021. The messages are distinguished by a "one-time" icon, signaling to recipients that they are limited to a single play, with no option for forwarding, saving, starring, or sharing.

As with all personal messages, WhatsApp protects the voice messages with end-to-end encryption by default, and "View Once" can also be used alongside.

"View Once voice messages are rolling out globally over the coming days, and we look forward to your feedback," WhatsApp noted.

Taking a screenshot of any received View Once media is not permitted by WhatsApp.
