You Might Be Able To See WhatsApp View Once Media On Linked Devices Soon

As per WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, Meta’s messaging service is developing this capability for future app updates.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for its Android app that will allow users to access ‘View Once’ media on linked devices. According to a feature tracker, this functionality is currently being tested in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android and is available only to select beta users.

This update follows WhatsApp’s recent fix of a bug that previously let recipients access self-destructing media beyond the intended one-time viewing.

Linked Devices To Support View Once Media

As per WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, Meta’s messaging service is developing this capability for future app updates. The feature is believed to be included in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.3.7, though it may also work with certain earlier beta versions.

At present, users can only view ‘View Once’ media on their primary device, making it inaccessible on linked smartphones or desktops. However, this limitation may soon change, as the beta version reportedly enables access to such media on companion devices as well. If implemented, this enhancement could offer greater flexibility for users who frequently switch between multiple devices.

WhatsApp first introduced the ‘View Once’ feature for photos and videos in August 2021, allowing users to send media that disappears after a single viewing. This option is represented by a “1” icon in the file-sharing window, next to the caption text box. Once the recipient opens the media, it is automatically deleted, ensuring it cannot be viewed again.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest update enabling ‘View Once’ media on linked devices is still in development and is currently limited to beta testers enrolled in the Google Play Beta program. Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to create and share events within individual chats on Android, further enhancing its functionality.
