PM Modi To Inaugurate Semicon India 2024 Today In Greater Noida: All You Need To Know About The Semiconductor Showcase

PM Modi Visit: Semicon India will bring together key stakeholders from the semiconductor sector.

PM Modi Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Semicon India 2024 today, September 11, kicking off a three-day event that aims to highlight India's strategy and policy to become a global hub for Semiconductor manufacturing and innovation. The conference, themed “Shaping the Semiconductor Future,” will be held at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, from September 11 to 13.

In a social media post, Modi announced, “At around 10:30 AM tomorrow, 11th September, I will inaugurate Semicon India 2024. As India works towards becoming a hub in the world for Semiconductors, Semicon India brings together key stakeholders from the sector.” This marks India's first major international conference focused on the Semiconductor industry.

The event is expected to bring together top executives, experts, and companies from the Semiconductor industry worldwide. According to a government statement, over 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers will participate, highlighting India's growing prominence in the Semiconductor sector.

India's Focus On Semiconductors

The Indian government has been actively working to strengthen the country’s Semiconductor capabilities, aiming to achieve self-reliance in chip manufacturing. As part of this effort, the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) was launched in December 2021, accompanied by a Rs 76,000-crore incentive scheme and a 50 percent subsidy on capital expenditure for setting up manufacturing facilities. Companies such as Micron, Tata-PSMC, CG Power, and Kaynes Technology have already announced plans to establish Semiconductor units in India.

Ahead of the event, Prime Minister Modi chaired a roundtable with Semiconductor industry leaders at his residence on September 10. The meeting was attended by representatives from prominent organisations including SEMI, Micron, NXP, PSMC, IMEC, Renesas, and others, as well as professors from Stanford University, University of California San Diego, and IIT. 

During the session, Modi discussed India’s developmental goals, emphasising the importance of infrastructure, inclusive growth, and reducing compliance burdens to attract investment in manufacturing and innovation. He highlighted India’s potential to become a key player in the global Semiconductor supply chain.

Semicon India 2024 is poised to be a significant step in India's journey to becoming a major player in the global Semiconductor landscape, aligning with Modi’s vision of transforming India into a leading Semiconductor hub.
