OpenAI, the Sam Altman-led maker of ChatGPT, has hired its first employee in India, Pragya Misra, marking a milestone for the company in its expansion efforts. The 39-year-old has taken on the role of government relations head, indicating OpenAI's commitment to engaging with policymakers as the global conversation around AI regulation intensifies.
While the company has not officially announced the appointment, Bloomberg has reported that Misra will lead OpenAI's public policy initiatives and forge strategic partnerships within India.

Misra brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as the Director of Public Affairs at Truecaller since July 2021. Prior to that, she held positions at Meta Platforms, WhatsApp, Ernst & Young, and the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi.
