Google I/O 2024: Features That Might Arrive In Our Phones After The Installation Of Android 15
In Android 15, Google might opt to either replace Assistant entirely with Gemini or integrate some of Gemini AI's features into Google Assistant.
Android at the moment has the majority of the global mobile operating systems market share captured, making it the most popular OS across the world. Just as in previous years, Google is gearing up to unveil the next instalment of its operating system, Android 15, during the annual Google I/O developers conference on May 14. With recent advancements in technology, Android 15 is anticipated to showcase several new generative AI capabilities, such as the native incorporation of Gemini AI into the core OS, updated first-party applications, and more.
Although the Android 15 beta has been accessible to developers for some time now, Google has maintained secrecy regarding many of the noteworthy features, which are set to be disclosed during I/O 2024. Ahead of the official unveiling, here's an overview of what we currently know about the forthcoming major update to the Android operating system.

What We Know Already About Android 15
The Android 15 beta has been accessible to specific Pixel smartphones for an extended period, during which Google has unveiled several changes it's implementing. One major update includes an edge-to-edge app feature, eliminating the black bar at the bottom of apps and allowing them to utilise the entire screen, creating a more modern and streamlined appearance.
To enable this feature, app developers need to optimise their apps for SDK 35, which is the latest Android platform from Google. Furthermore, Android 15 enhances NFC handling, particularly in experiences like tap-to-pay on compatible devices. Another notable addition in Android 15 is the application archiving function, automatically archiving apps that remain unused for an extended period to free up internal storage at the OS level. Additionally, Android 15 provides native support for Braille displays through the HID standard in both wired and wireless modes.
Improvements in end-to-end encryption are also prominent in Android 15, introducing a key manager that allows apps to be secured using end-to-end encryption at the OS level. Moreover, Android 15 introduces secured background activities to prevent malicious apps from bringing other apps to the foreground, thereby safeguarding users from potential abusive interactions.
What Can We Expect From The Upcoming Android 15
Android 15 is poised to incorporate more advanced AI capabilities. While Google has been offering various AI functionalities for Pixel device users, Android 15 is expected to integrate these features at the operating system level. This signifies that not only Pixel phones but any device running on Android 15 can take advantage of these AI capabilities.
In Android 15, Google might opt to either replace Assistant entirely with Gemini or integrate some of Gemini AI's features into Google Assistant. These features could include, but are not limited to, a chatbot, an image generator, and more. Additionally, Android 15 may introduce Samsung and Google's exclusive Circle to Search feature, making it accessible to all Android smartphones running on the Android 15 OS.
Google may also infuse AI functionalities into its apps like Google Photos, Docs, Sheets, and others, and there may be some special announcements in this regard. While Google will unveil these features during the Tuesday event, they are expected to be available to the general public in the latter half of 2024. It's worth noting that the availability of these features may vary from one original electronics manufacturer (OEM) to another.
