Realme Set To Return To Smartwatch Market After 2 Years. Here's What To Expect

Handset maker Realme is poised to make a comeback in the smartwatch segment after a notable absence of two years. Realme has not launched a smarwtatch since late 2022.

Handset maker Realme is poised to make a comeback in the smartwatch segment after a notable absence of two years. Realme has not launched a smarwtatch since late 2022. However, a recent image shared by noted tipster Ishan Agarwal reveals details of the purported Realme Watch S2, signaling the brand's return to the smartwatch category.

According to information shared by the tipster, the Realme Watch S2 is set to debut in India alongside the Realme 13 Pro series. The company has recently announced that this launch event is scheduled for July 30.

This new model follows in the footsteps of the Realme Watch S, which debuted in 2020 as the company's second smartwatch and its first with a circular design. Prior to this, Realme had focused on rectangular watch faces for its initial offering and subsequent number series of devices.

Realme Watch S2 Specs And Features (Expected)

The packaging for the Watch S2 highlights expected features such as fitness and health monitoring capabilities. However, it also introduces new functionalities, including Bluetooth calling and audio support. These additions represent significant upgrades over the original Watch S, which lacked these features at its launch four years ago.

This re-entry into the smartwatch market suggests Realme is ready to compete once again in this evolving segment.

Based on the visible design elements, it appears the new Realme smartwatch will feature a digital crown and an additional button. The inclusion of a metal link bracelet suggests that this model may be positioned as a more premium offering, as compared to previous Realme watches. However, it is likely that the device will still run on a proprietary operating system (OS) rather than adopting Wear OS.

According to a report in Business Today, Realme's Fracis Wong was quoted as saying that the new smartwatch's availability will be limited, with a focus on the Indian market. Francis further explained: "Our research indicates that consumers in India are particularly receptive to our IoT offerings."

While specific details about the forthcoming smartwatch remain confidential, including its official name and full specifications, it is anticipated to build upon Realme's previous successes in the wearable devices. The new device is likely to introduce advanced features and performance improvements compared to its predecessors.
