Seems like handset maker Oppo has taken a cue from the likes of Apple and Samsung and has decided to stop including chargers in the box with new devices within the next 12 months. This also comes after Oppo's rival Xiaomi stopped chargers within the box in select markets.

According to a report by Android Police, in an interview during the European launch of the Oppo Reno 8 series, Oppo’s President of Overseas Sales and Services, Billy Zhang mentioned that the company would stop providing chargers alongside several Oppo smartphone models next year. Zhang was quoted as saying in the report: “We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products. We have a plan.”

However, Zhang did not confirm what smartphone models would not come with a charger in the packaging. Oppo is likely to remove charging bricks from the box in select countries and not all and it would also depend on the product.

Meanwhile, Redmi Note 11SE which was recently announced in India India has not been shipped with a charger. Redmi is known for providing affordable handsets along with fast chargers in the box for the longest time but last month, it followed the path of Apple and Samsung. After the flagship Galaxy S and Fold and Flip, Samsung has stopped providing charging bricks in the box along with Galaxy A series devices too. In fact, Samsung has removed power adapters from all its devices, including budget handsets too.

Xiaomi has also recently stopped supplying chargers in the box with the Mi 11 in its home turf China. Apple also stopped providing in-box chargers in 2020.

It should be noted that tech giants Apple and Samsung are reportedly facing fines for not shipping chargers within the box with new smartphones. While Apple is facing additional fines in Brazil for not shipping their new iPhones with a charger Procon in Fortaleza has imposed a fine of $5.2 million on Samsung.
