'We’re Helping Our Tamil Brothers': MoS L Murugan On Jaffna Cultural Centre Dedication Event

Chennai: Ahead of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe dedicating the Jaffna Cultural Centre to the people, Indian Minister of State Information and Broadcasting L Murugan said that the country was helping Sri Lanka due to PM Modi’s neighbourhood first policy.

Talking to ANI, L Murugan, MoS Information & Broadcasting said, “Tomorrow, 11th Feb, I will be attending Jaffna Cultural Centre dedication event. This centre is iconic & it’s an 11-floor building. More than 600 audiences can sit in auditorium. This centre is going to help the people of Jaffna.”

“Because of PM’s neighbourhood first policy, we’re helping Sri Lanka, 50,000 houses built & given to people, more than 20 schools renovated, rail connectivity has been improved. We’re helping our Tamil brothers,” he said.

The Jaffna Cultural Centre was built with a grant from the Indian government to symbolise the positive increase in bilateral and developmental ties between India and Sri Lanka. 

The centre is designed in such a way that it is the tallest building in Jaffna. It is also located next to Jaffna Public Library. 

The centre has a museum on two floors, an auditorium with a capacity to accommodate more than 600 people, a single-storeyed leaning tower and a public square. Apart from this, the centre also has a gift shop, a multi-media library, a lecture room, gallery spaces and a cafeteria. 

PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the Cultural Centre in 2015. He was also the first PM to visit Jaffna.
