TN Local Body Polls 2022: 47.18% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 3 PM, Lowest In Chennai
The results for the local body polls will be declared on February 22.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported an overall voter turnout of 47.18 percent including elections to corporations, municipalities and panchayats till 3 pm on Saturday. Among the districts, the lowest voter turnout was reported in Chennai with only 31% of the population turning to vote for the mayor.
According to the vote share details shared by the Tamil Nadu state election commission, till 3pm, the town panchayats recorded a turnout of 61.38 percent, municipalities 53.49 percent and corporations 39.13 percent.
Meanwhile, the highest overall voter turnout, till 1pm, was reported in Namakkal (50.58%) followed by Karur (50.04%). The lowest voter turnout after Chennai was reported in Chengalpattu with 30.32 percent of the people turning to vote in the local body elections.
On Saturday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin came along with his wife Durga Stalin and waited in a queue to cast his vote at SIET College in Teynampet. He also urged the public to perform their democratic duty.

Further, he said that the DMK has been giving good governance even to the people who did not vote for them so their alliance will win all 21 Corporations.
Apart from Tamil Nadu CM, DMK leaders Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Udhayanidhi Stalin, TN Minister performed their democratic duty. NTK chief Seeman and MNM chief Kamal Hassan voted in the elections. Former AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala voted for the first time after her release from the prison in a disproportionate assets case. Actors Vijay, Surya, Karthi also cast their votes.
The polling that started at 7 am is set to go on till 6 pm with the last hour allotted for the people with coronavirus symptoms or the patients who tested positive for the virus. The results for the local body polls will be declared on February 22.
