Later, taking to social media, Stalin said, "I rushed to Villupuram and Chengalpattu after hearing the sad news of spurious liquor deaths. Those responsible for the deaths have been arrested. Action has been initiated against the police officers who failed on their duty."

"I have also strictly ordered that such incidents should not repeat again. I have also ordered to transfer the case to CB-CID," he said.

The CM announced a CB-CID inquiry into the matter. The CM also ordered the suspension of several police officers in the two districts.

The CM announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased members and Rs 50,000 to the families of the persons receiving treatment at the hospital due to health issues after consuming the spurious liquor.

As per the preliminary investigation, it was found that the tragedy at Marakkanam in the Villupuram district occurred after some people consumed locally brewed liquor. However, in the Chengalpattu district, the liquor that caused the deaths was diluted industrial alcohol with Methanol content in it, said a report on IANS.
