Chennai: In pursuit of self-defense, a young woman in her early twenties killed a 40-year-old man in a bid to save herself from rape on July 13.
The incident took place in Chennai’s Minjur area in Tamil Nadu.
The incident took place on July 13 after which a case was booked against the woman under Section 100 of the Indian Penal Code (right of private defense of the body extends to causing death).
The police however set the woman free yesterday with no charges. An initial probe revealed that the cops had first lodged a case of suspicious death after they came across the body of the man near the fish farm.
Evil intent
According to the reports, the woman who is married and also has two kids was working at the farm when the incident occurred. The man allegedly sneaked into the farm and took the woman to an isolated place with the intent to rape her.
An ordeal of self-defense
As per sources, the woman pushed the man, in order to save herself from sexual assault to the ground where he hit a stone and lost consciousness. Later, she dragged the man and dumped him alongside the road.
Villagers alerted the cops
Subsequently, she narrated the entire incident to her husband, but before her husband could do anything about the incident local villagers reached at the spot where the body was dumped and hence cops were informed. The ambulance took the deceased for examination and later the man was declared dead.
The woman was freed from charges
The police sent the body for further medical examination and lodged a case of a suspicious death. Later, after hearing the woman’s ordeal and assessing the case, cops set her free.
Vadivel Murugan told TOI, “We inquired about the deceased in the neighborhood and people said they had spotted him a couple of times in the area. They said that he was not employed in any company there.”
