Tamil Nadu: OPS Slams Stalin Administration For Not Filling Up Vacancies, Demands TNPSC Exams

O Panneerselvam said that as 1 lakh government employees retired last year they are in total 4.5 lakh vacancies in Tamil Nadu services.

Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam slammed Tamil Nadu government for not fulfilling its poll promise of filling up 3.5 lakh vacancies in government departments. He also insisted the DMK-led government to hold Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) examinations periodically and fill up the vacant posts. In 2021, DMK made a promise as part of its manifesto to take immediate steps to fill vacant posts in the state service after coming to power.

According to IANS, OPS in a statement said, the state government should conduct periodical examinations through TNPSC to fill up the vacant posts in government departments. He said that over 1 lakh government employees retired within the last year so they are in total 4.5 lakh vacancies in Tamil Nadu services.

The former Finance Minister said that the 4.5 lakh vacancies mean 60% of the total government employees in the state. He also insisted the state government to conduct group IV exams in 2023 to fill 50,000 vacant posts.

The expelled AIADMK leader came out strongly against the "failure" of the DMK government. He said, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin was not even filling 10,000 vacant posts. He called upon the government to hold TNPSC examinations periodically and fill up the vacant posts.

Meanwhile, the former CM also commented on Mekedatu Dam. OPS said, "Mekedatu Dam cannot be constructed in Karnataka without the permission of the Tamil Nadu government."

The statement comes after a section of media that claimed Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar expressed his government's resolve to construct the balancing reservoir across the inter-state Cauvery at Mekedatu. Tamil Nadu government also outright opposed the remark of Shivakumar.
