Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Seeks Support From 12 State CMs To Oppose NEET Exam

The letter has been sent to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, New Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Goa, West Bengal, Telangana, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday wrote to the Chief Ministers of 12 states seeking their support to oppose NEET and reclaim states’ right over education as stated in the constitution.

The letter has been sent to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, New Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Goa, West Bengal, Telangana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh and plans were made to ensure that DMK MPs would meet the Chief Ministers of different states in person.

According to a report in The News Minute, the Chief Minister had attached the report of the AK Rajan committee that studied the impact of NEET on students from socially backward backgrounds and rural areas along with the letter.

Quoting the letter, the report said that the committee was also asked to suggest an alternative to NEET that would benefit all students without any discrimination, the feasibility of implementing such an alternative admission procedure, and legal steps that need to be taken to implement it. The same has been attached with the letter for your perusal, Stalin wrote in the letter.

In the letter, according to the report, Stalin said that the union government’s decision to implement NEET to admit students in medical colleges was against the spirit of federalism and violates the constitutional balance of power as it curbs the state government’s rights to decide on the admission procedure.

He requested the Chief Ministers of the other states to go through the reports and extend their support so that students from rural areas and marginalised sections of the society would not face hurdles in getting admission to medical colleges.
