Swiggy Strike: Why Delivery Executives Are Staging Protest In Chennai?
Swiggy Strike: As per the revised payment structure, the delivery platform has reportedly increased the working hours for the same pay and canceled weekly incentives to the executives.
Chennai: Swiggy delivery executives are continuing their strike condemning their revised payment structure for the third consecutive day in Chennai on Wednesday. As a result, Swiggy delivery services are completely hit in the city.
More than 800 delivery executives are staging the protest from Monday. The delivery platform reportedly increased the working hours and canceled weekly incentives to the executives.
Talking to New Indian Express, a delivery executive with Swiggy said, "Every week I used to work for 10 hours and earn Rs 12,000. However, the revised payment structure has said that only if I work for 15-16 hours a day, I can earn Rs 13,500 a day."
In the new pay structure, we are forced to work for more hours for the same pay, he said.

The new rules say that the delivery agents should deliver at least 180 orders each week to earn Rs 13,500. The part-time workers should deliver 60 orders to earn Rs 3,000.
Another delivery executive said that they are expected to deliver 30 orders per day and he was even forced to drive 300 km to earn Rs 400.
"How much will be left for us after reducing the petrol charges," he asked, as per The New Indian Express.

On Tuesday, as a result of the protest, restaurants witnessed 70% drop in their online sales in Chennai.
Meanwhile, Swiggy workers are also staging protests against the hike in other parts of the country including Jammu.
However, Swiggy has denied the claim. The firm said that there are no changes in the pay structure or the hours the executives work on a daily basis.
