5 Injured In Clash Between Devotees And Security Personnel At Srirangam Temple In TN

After the incident, BJP dubbed that DMK government showed anti-Hindu sentiments and did not respect sanctity.

Five persons were injured in a fight between security staff of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department and devotees at Arulmigu Ranganathaswamy temple in Trichy's Srirangam on Tuesday. After the incident, three temple workers were arrested in connection with the incident.

When Ayappa devotees from Andhra Pradesh attempted to enter the sanctum sanctorum by pushing other devotees for darshan, a commotion ensued on Monday.

According to a report in Times of India, HR and CE official said that 34 devotees from AP visited Srirangam temple on Monday morning and were standing in a queue outside the sanctum sanctorum. The queue was moving slowly due to the high number of devotees as a result of the annual festival of Srirangam temple. At that time, the devotees reportedly tried to shake the temple hundial. While security personnel questioned the rude behavior, the devotees took to a sit-in protest alleging that they were assaulted by the temple authorities.

Five persons who were injured in the incident were identified as temple security personnel B Selvakumar, N Vignesh and M Barat and devotees Chenna Rao and Katla Ramu.

After the incident, BJP dubbed that DMK government showed anti-Hindu sentiments and did not respect sanctity. On the Srirangam Temple scuffle between security and devotees, Tamil Nadu BJP vice president Narayanan Thirupathy said, "It shows the anti-Hindu sentiment of the DMK government, we strongly condemn this. We had protested, and our BJP and all other Hindu front activists were there. They have been arrested by the police it is a very clear indication that this government is not bothered, it is not giving any respect to the sanctity."

"They are not able to maintain the sanctity of the temples. This is what has happened and we strongly condemn we feel really sorry for the devotees because they don't have any motivation or they don't have any motive to hit or injure the people working there. So it is the arrogance that we are seeing everywhere in all the temples," he said.
