Not MGR, Karunanidhi Is A Betrayer: AIADMK Leaders Respond To DMK Minister Duraimurugan's Remarks

DMK senior leader and Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister S Duraimurugan made a statement alleging that former chief minister MG Ramachandran was a betrayer.

Chennai: AIADMK leaders had lashed out at the ruling DMK after the party’s senior leader and Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister S Duraimurugan made a statement alleging that former chief minister MG Ramachandran was a betrayer.

Following the minister’s statement, AIADMK leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam, in a joint statement, said that Duraimurugan’s statement was false and it was only the former chief minister MKarunanidhi who betrayed MGR, according to a report in IANS.

Quoting the statement, the report said that MGR was a popular matinee idol and DMK came to power only because of MGR’s popularity and the minister’s statement was like ‘satan preaching scriptures’.

The statement, according to the report, said that Karunanidhi was the biggest betrayer and pointed out how his government had withdrawn a case related to inter-state Cauvery water dispute issue from the Supreme Court and betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu.

The statement further said that the massacre of Tamils in Sri Lanka was a betrayal to Tamil diaspora, supporting the union government’s decision to ban jallikattu was a betrayal to the sportsperson and introducing NEET was a betrayal to the rural students, according to the report.
