Chennai: Medical Aspirant Dies By Suicide Due To Fear Of Failing NEET
The deceased P Dhanush was stressed since he already attempted NEET in 2021 but could not clear the exam.
Chennai: A medical aspirant died by suicide due to the fear of failing the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), the mandatory test to enter medical colleges of the state, in Chennai on Friday. The deceased P Dhanush already attempted NEET in 2021 but could not clear the exam.
According to a report on The New Indian Express, Dhanush completed his schooling at a government school in Chennai in 2020 and he belonged to the Scheduled Tribe community.
The police said, Dhanush scored 153 marks in NEET 2021 but he could not get the seat. Hence, he got enrolled in a private coaching center despite the center demanding Rs 10,000 as a fee for a 10 days course.
Later, the center once again demanded Rs 10,000 for another 10 more days of coaching. However, Dhanush's father who was an auto driver and his mother who was a daily wage labourer could not afford the sum.

Therefore, he quit the center and started preparing for the exam on his own.
On Wednesday, while he was alone at the home preparing for the exam, he allegedly took the extreme step reportedly due to the fear of failing the test. When his mother returned home, she was shocked to find him in an unconscious state. She rushed him to Government Kilpauk Medical College but doctors declared him brought dead.

In a video verified by NDTV, Dhanush had before his death said, "I could not achieve; I could not succeed. So no one is responsible for my death."
The police have registered a case and an investigation is on.
