In A Setback To EPS, Madras HC Orders Fresh AIADMK GC Meet, Says July 11 Meet Invalid

The Madras HC ordered status quo ante June 23 and also ordered to conduct a fresh general council meet of AIADMK. 

Chennai: In a major setback to Tamil Nadu Opposition leader Edappadi Palaniswami’s camp, the Madras High Court ordered that the general council meeting held on July 11, 2022 electing (EPS) as the interim general secretary of AIADMK invalid. The Madras HC ordered status quo ante June 23 and also ordered to conduct a fresh general council meet of AIADMK. 

In a tweet, ANI said, “Madras High Court orders in favour of  O Panneerselvam. Orders status quo ante June 23, also orders conduct of a fresh general council meet of AIADMK.”

“O Paneerselvam had questioned the legality and violation of bylaws in convening the AIADMK General Council meeting,” it said.

On Wednesday, Justice G Jayachandran pronounced the orders in the case filed by OPS challenging the general council meet held by AIADMK on July 11. In the GC meeting, the EPS camp also announced Edappadi Palaniswami as the interim general secretary of the party. The EPS camp also expelled OPS from the party during the meet.

As soon as the verdict was pronounced by Madras High Court, the supporters of O Panneerselvam who started to gather in front of his home on Wednesday started their celebration. They burst crackers and distributed sweets to celebrate their win.
