Chennai Youth Arrested For Posting Derogatory Meme On Budget
Earlier, a case was registered against him following a complaint filed by a Women's Commission member.
A 23-year-old man, who is the administrator of Twitter page ‘Voice of Savukku’, was arrested for making and posting a ‘derogatory’ video on social media. The cyber wing of Chennai police made the arrested after the video meme against the state budget showed a woman in a derogatory manner.
The youth, identified as Pradeep, was arrested on Tuesday night from Gumidippondi, police sources said.
Sources in Chennai cyber crime police told IANS that a case was registered against him following a complaint filed by a Women's Commission member.
According to police, he had shared a video meme after the state finance minister P.T.R. Thiagarajan presented the budget announcing Rs 1,000 for women heads of families.
BJP state president, K. Annamalai came out against the police action on Pradeep. In a tweet, Annamalai said, "Democracy turns into autocracy when power is concentrated with one family and becomes a state of dictatorship in no time."

In his post, Annamalai said, "If posting a troll video results in an arrest, the entire DMK IT wing should be behind the bars."
Savukku Shankar is a former government employee turned whistle-blower. He runs a website to write about corrupt practices in government agencies. However, he is also known for making controversial comments and statements backing political parties.
