Tamil Nadu: Six Dead, 10 Suffer Injuries After Govt Bus Rams Into Stationary Lorry In Chengalpattu

After Chengalpattu Bus Accident came to light, PM Modi conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.

Chennai: Six passengers died while over 10 others suffered injuries after the driver of the government bus in which they were traveling rammed into a stationary lorry in Chengalpattu on Friday morning. The incident took place while the bus was traveling on Chennai-Trichy National Highway.

According to a report on ABP Nadu, the accident occurred while the government bus with over 30 passengers bound for Chidambaram was crossing Acharapakkam in Chengalpattu district on Chennai-Trichy National Highway. While the bus was crossing Acharapakkam, the bus driver suddenly tried to overtake another bus but instead suddenly rammed into a stationary lorry. Of the 30 passengers, six persons including two women died on the spot while over 10 other members suffered injuries.

 

Based on the tipoff, the Acharapakkam police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured people.

The police then sent the injured to Chengalpattu district hospital for treatment.

They also recovered the bodies of the deceased persons and are trying to trace the identities of the deceased.

The police have filed a complaint and further investigations are on.

After the incident came to light, PM Modi in a tweet in Tamil said, "I am sorry to hear about the loss of life in the road accident near Chengalpattu. My condolences to the bereaved family. I wish the injured a speedy recovery."

Meanwhile, the accident affected the traffic flow for 30 minutes and the police later cleared the traffic.
