Thoothukudi: Two Arrested For Attacking & Chopping Hair Of Transwomen, Act Caught On Camera
Attack On Transwomen: MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian said, “All women in their diversity need to be protected from all forms of violence. It is deeply disturbing to see the violence against Transwomen.”
Chennai: A day after the video of two transwomen being attacked and their hair chopped off by some men in Kazhugumalai of Thoothukudi went viral on social media, Tamil Nadu South Zone IG Asra Garg said that the two accused have been arrested. He also said that a case has been registered and legal action has been initiated in the case.
Talking to ANI, Tamil Nadu South Zone IG Asra Garg says, “We've identified the persons incl the victims. A case has been registered & legal action is being taken in this regard."
“Both the accused seen in the video have been arrested and a case has been registered against them,” he said.

They have been arrested after a video of them thrashing two transgender women in Tuticorin went viral on social media.

On Wednesday, a viral video posted by social media users including transwomen activist Grace Banu showed two men thrashing a hysterically crying transwoman. One of the men also held a transwoman by her hair and chopped her hair off.
Taking to social media, Grace Banu said, “When is this kind of violence going to end? When Cis people face this same kind of violence I am sure you people not going to keep this kind of silence. My community persons facing this kind of violence every day.”
Responding to the tweet, Tamil Nadu MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian said, “All women in all their diversity need to be protected from all forms of violence. It is deeply disturbing to see the violence and hatred inflicted on Transwomen at Kazhugumalai, Thoothukudi Dist.”
“I strongly condemn this assault and request the @tnpoliceoffl to take strict action and stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, police booked a case, zeroed down on the accused and arrested the two accused who were seen thrashing two transwomen in Tuticorin.
