DMK Files: Annamalai To Be Questioned In Defamation Case Filed By TN Govt On Aug 24

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai is set to be questioned on the allegations against him in a defamation case filed by Tamil Nadu government in connection with DMK files on August 24. The Saidapet Metropolitan Magistrate also ordered Annamalai to appear before the court on August 24. 

According to ANI, “Defamation case on Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai adjourned to August 24 Saidapet Metropolitan 17th Magistrate Anitha Anandh ordered Annamalai again to appear before the court on August 24. Case copies have been handed over to HIM. On August 24, he would be questioned on the allegations.”

 

In May, Tamil Nadu government moved a criminal defamation case against state BJP chief K Annamalai as he made "defamatory comments" against CM Stalin in connection with the "DMK Files". The plea said that Annamalai said defamatory statements against CM Stalin “without any basis or evidence" during a press conference on April 14.

The petition was moved by city public prosecutor Devaraj on behalf of TN CM. In the petition filed before the first bench of Chennai civil and principal sessions court, the petitioner stated that the files 'released' by Annamalai to the press on April 14 were baseless and without any valid proof.

The statements made by Annamalai against Stalin were also defaming in nature. The statements were not just false but also aimed at tarnishing the reputation and fame of the Chief Minister, the petitioner said, as per ABP Nadu.
