Amma Mini-Clinic Scheme Ends, Medicos To Be Given Alternate Works: TN Health Minister Ma Subramanian

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to reportedly discontinue the Amma mini-clinic scheme citing lack of performance.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Tuesday said the Amma mini-clinic was a temporary scheme for a year and the scheme would be discontinued. However, the Health Minister said that the tenure of the doctors who were working in the clinics have been extended till March and other jobs would be provided for them.

Talking to the media persons, Ma Subramanian said, Amma mini-clinics was started as a temporary scheme for a year by converting unused buildings in the vicinity. The previous government did not even appoint nurses for the clinics.

Hence, Amma mini-clinic works would be discontinued but all the 1,820 doctors would be provided other jobs, he said. The tenure of the doctors has been extended till March and their service would be utilized to handle the Omicron variant, he added.

In 2020, the previous government launched 1,950 Amma clinics in the state for fever diagnosing and vaccination centers.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister on Covid-19 said, the spread of coronavirus is more in Chennai and soon the Chennai Corporation workers would be geared towards finding containment zones and taking all measures to curb the spread.

The same protocol would also be implemented in Coimbatore and Chengalpattu.
