43 Medical Students Test Positive For COVID-19 In Telangana

The preliminary probe by the medical health officials revealed that the students participated in the event without wearing masks.

Chennai: Around 43 medical students tested positive for novel coronavirus in Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences at Bommakal in Telangana a week after the annual day festival was held in their college premises. The preliminary probe by the medical health officials revealed that the students participated in the event without wearing masks.

According to a report on NDTV, Karimnagar district medical and health officer Dr Juveria said that the Telangana government was not informed about the event and the preliminary investigation has also revealed that many people attended the function without wearing a mask.

Till now, 200 students have been tested for the virus while the remaining people from the medical college with a strength of over 1,000 people will be made to undergo a test on Monday. 

Earlier, in a similar incident, 306 students tested positive for COVID-19 at SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad district of Karnataka after a cultural fest. Hence, the Dharwad district administration imposed a lockdown on the educational institutions in a 500-m radius to the SDM College and the area was sanitised by the municipal officials.

Meanwhile, Telangana Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Srinivas Rao said the coronavirus cases are likely to increase between January and February due to the increasing Omicron scare. 

He said that the Omicron variant is spreading with four times intensity to sixteen times within a week to 10 days.
