Parents Strangulate Pregnant Daughter In UP's Muzzafarnagar For Refusing To Testify In 'Rape Case'

Parents strangulated their eight-month-pregnant daughter to death for refusing to appear before a court in Uttar Pradesh to testify in a kidnapping and rape case.

Parents of a 19-year-old woman strangulated their eight-month-pregnant daughter to death on Friday night before her appearance at a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzzafarnagar to testify in a kidnapping and rape case, police said on Sunday. They said the victim’s body was dumped in a river at Goyla village under the Shahpur police station area after she was killed for refusing to give a statement before the court against her alleged partner Rahul, who the parents had filed a complaint against earlier, reported news agency PTI.

Notably, police said they have arrested the parents of the victim. Talking to reporters, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Suman said that the woman's parents were arrested under Indian Penal Code section 302 (murder). He added that the parents have confessed to the crime.

SP Suman further said the woman had to record her statement in the case on Saturday but did not appear before the court. The woman and her partner had eloped in October 2022. However, police arrested and sent Rahul to jail later in December that year after the couple was traced.

The top cop was quoted as saying by PTI: "The woman's parents wanted her to testify against Rahul in court. But she refused to do so. This angered her parents, who killed her.”

Meanwhile, in a separate incident that took place on Saturday, the BJP workers in West Bengal took to the streets over the incident of alleged sexual assault and murder of a minor girl in Siliguri earlier this week, news agency ANI reported.

The incident came to light after the body of a 15-year-old girl was found in a dilapidated house in the Matigara area on Monday evening. According to a report by news agency PTI, the incident took place when the girl, a Class 11 student, was returning home from school.

Police said as per preliminary investigation, it has been found that the accused intercepted her on her way back from school and she was killed during an attempt of sexual assault. The prime suspect has been arrested and the stone with which the girl was allegedly attacked has also been recovered, police said, as reported by PTI.
