8 People Charred To Death After Car Collides With Dumper On UP Highway

A collision between a car and a dumper on the Bareilly-Nainital Highway in Uttar Pradesh led to the death of eight people including a child.

Eight people including a minor were charred to death on Sunday in a car-dumper collision on the Bareilly-Nainital Highway in Uttar Pradesh. Eyewitnesses told news agency ANI that the car suffered a tyre burst following which a head-on collision occurred between the car and a dumper which was coming from Uttarakhand. A loud explosion was heard after the crash and both the vehicles soon went up in flames, according to the sources. 

Senior Superintendent of Police, Bareilly, GS Chandrabhan, told news agency PTI, "An Ertiga collided with a truck on the (Nainital) highway. Following the collision, a fire broke out in the car, and eight people - including a child - lost their lives. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem."

The SSP added that the vehicle was headed from Bareilly to Baheri.

According to a PTI report, police officials rushed to the site of the incident after getting the word and soon firefighters were brought in to douse the flames, however, the occupants trapped inside the car were burnt alive as the doors were locked from within.

Officials told PTI that the two occupants in the dumper also got critically injured. 

Earlier in November, an SUV, going north of Worli towards Bandra in Maharashtra collided with a vehicle. After colliding, the vehicle sped up and hit 2-3 more vehicles. In total, six vehicles were damaged and nine people were injured. Out of the nine, three succumbed to their injuries and two were in critical condition, as reported by ANI.
