UP Assembly Election: Congress Releases Women's Manifesto, 40% Of 20L New Jobs For Women

Priyanka said that Congress would make education accessible to women by giving smartphones to students studying in Class 10 to 12 and scooters to graduate students if the party is voted to power.

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday released the ‘women’s manifesto’ ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in Lucknow.

With a host of promises, UP election in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra rolled out the manifesto for the poll-bound state. Addressing a press conference, Priyanka said, “Women empowerment is possible only when women get equal rights and get respect. Congress is committed to give equal rights and respect to women power.”

Reading out the six-point ‘women’s manifesto’ that focusses majorly on woman empowerment, Priyanka Gandhi said that the Congress would make education accessible to women by giving smartphones to students studying in Class 10 to 12 and scooters to graduate students if the party is voted to power.

Highlighting on the party’s promise to reserve 40% of its election tickets for women, Priyanka said that in Congress’s attempt to bring women empowerment at the grassroot level, increasing the participation of women in policy-making is important and hence the 40% reservation.

Releasing the manifesto titled ‘Shakti Vidhan’, Priyanka Gandhi said that the party would allot 40% of the 20 lakh new jobs, that the party has decided to create in the state, to women.

The promises made by Priyanka Gandhi also include the offer of three free LPG cylinders for women in the light of hike in price of cylinders.

Apart from these, she also promised that every woman senior citizen and widow in the state would get a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 and every newborn girl child would get a fixed deposit in her name.

Flagging the issue of women safety, Priyanka said that the Congress wants 25% of the police force to consist of women. All the chowkis would have at least one woman officer and constable, she said.

The party also promised a medical cover of Rs 10 lakh for women for any kind of disease or illness.
