Mainpuri Bypoll: SP Candidate Dimple Yadav Files Nomination, Declares Assets Worth Rs 14 Crore

Dimple Yadav has contested the Lok Sabha polls four times -- twice each during bypolls and general elections. She won twice from Kannauj.

Dimple Yadav, former MP and wife of Akhilesh Yadav on Monday filed her nomination for Mainpuri assembly by-polls and said, "Netaji's blessing has always been with us and I hope that the people of Mainpuri will also bless Samajwadi Party (SP)."

"We've filed Dimple Yadav's nomination for Mainpuri by-polls. This will happen after demise of Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav), it's still a sad occasion for us. With the nomination, SP ensures that party will work on the footprints of Netaji for benefits of Mainpuri," she added.

Dimple has declared movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 14 crore.

According to the affidavit regarding the details of assets and liabilities attached with the nomination, she has total assets of Rs 14 crore 32 lakh two thousand 605. These include movable assets worth Rs 4 crore 70 lakh three thousand 687 and immovable assets worth Rs 9 crore 61 lakh 98 thousand 918. Dimple's husband SP chief Akhilesh has immovable assets worth Rs 17.22 crore and movable assets worth more than Rs 8.33 crore.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has liabilities of over Rs 17.2 lakh, while his wife Dimple has shown liabilities of over Rs 14.26 lakh. According to the affidavit, Dimple has more than two and a half kilos (2774.674 grams) of gold jewelery and 203 grams of pearls and 127.75 carats of diamonds. The total cost of all these ornaments is Rs Rs 59,76,687.

She has a computer worth Rs. 1.25 lakh and Dimple does not own any car or any other vehicle. Dimple, who was an MP from Kannauj in the year 2012 and 2014, obtained a bachelor's (B.Com) degree from Lucknow University in the year 1998. She married Akhilesh Yadav in the year 1999.

She has been fielded by the Samajwadi Party for the bypolls to the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency. The Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat fell vacant due to the death of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The names of Akhilesh's cousin Dharmendra Yadav and his nephew Tej Pratap Yadav were also doing the rounds as probable candidates for the Mainpuri seat but it finally decided by the party to field Dimple Yadav.

Voting will be held on December 5 and the results will be declared on December 8. Mainpuri is a Samajwadi Party stronghold and it was from this seat that Mulayam was first elected an MP in 1996.

He successfully contested from the seat three more times -- 2004, 2009 and 2019. In the 2014 bypoll, Akhilesh's nephew Tej Pratap Yadav won the seat.

The election will be a litmus test for SP president Akhilesh Yadav as this will be the first electoral battle for the party without Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Dimple Yadav has contested the Lok Sabha polls four times -- twice each during bypolls and general elections. She won twice from Kannauj.

Dimple's maiden attempt to enter the Lok Sabha in 2009 failed when Congress's Raj Babbar defeated her in the Firozabad Lok Sabha bypoll. That byelection was held as Akhilesh chose to vacate the Firozabad seat and retained Kannauj.

She won the Kannauj Lok Sabha bypoll unopposed in 2012 when Akhilesh resigned the seat to enter the state legislative council as he had become the Uttar Pradesh chief minister. She then won the same seat in the 2014 general elections but lost it to BJP's Subrat Pathak in 2019.

Apart from Mainpuri, bypolls will also held for Rampur Sadar and Khatauli Assembly constituencies.

The bypolls for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat will be held on December 5 and the result will be declared on December 8.
