Mulayam Singh Yadav Death HIGHLIGHTS: Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav died Monday in Medanta hospital in Gurugram, where he was undergoing treatment. Mulayam, 82, was admitted to the hospital in August, was shifted to ICU on October 2 and was on lifesaving drugs since.
Samajwadi Party from its official Twitter handle, quoting Akhilesh Yadav announced the death of the party founder.
"Mere adarniya pitaji aur sabke netaji nahi rahe (My respected father and everyone's 'Neta ji' is no more) - Akhilesh Yadav," the tweet said.

According to hospital sources, he breathed his last at 8.15 a.m. on Monday.
The 82-year-old Samajwadi Party patriarch was facing difficulty in breathing and was under the supervision of an internal medicine expert at the Medanta Hospital, as per sources. Singh was suffering from a urinary infection as well, hospital sources had said.
On Sunday, Medanta Hospital put out a health bulletin stating that the veteran leader's condition was quite critical and that he was on life-saving drugs.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected as the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister three times — from 1989 to 1991, 1993 to 1995, and 2003 to 2007.
From 1996 to 1998, Mulayam Singh was also the Union defence minister.
In 1967, Mulayam Singh was 28 years old when he was elected as an MLA for the first time. His political career lasted over five decades. He launched the SP in 1992 and developed his operations throughout North India.
